Classic, and true. Great thing to remember -- we worship God with our lives and speak of His glory through our actions. Because of His love, we love; because of His mercy, we are merciful; because of His grace we are gracious. Good stuff.

Thanks so much for your note of encouragement on my blog. Your insight on what it means to be a woman and to love God, to know God, has been a treasure and I have been shoving your book into the hands of many of my girlfriends who like me are struggling through this issue. There are so many lies out there in the world and in the church about what it means to be truly feminine, especially as a mid twenties single woman. This is a very popular quote to use at the moment. However, do you actually know if Saint Francis of Assisi said it? There is some debate. Perhaps you should check your source. Secondly, isn't it always nessesary to use words to "preach" the gospel? I agree that we need to embody our message, but we also need to proclaim it. Show and tell only works when you do both. Thirdly, if Saint Francis said this, we have to assume that he was not meaning that we should reduce the amount of proclamation we do, as Saint Francis devoted his life to preaching.
We must practice what we preach, but preach we must!

My source is reliable. There is often debate about whether a person really said what they are reported to have said. For example, some debate about whether Luther said “Here I stand.” But most are convinced he did.
St. Francis gives us wise advise. And I doubt Christians are in danger of going silent. But the words we speak can cause damage or gain entrance because of how badly or well we live out the Gospel.
